The National Lottery and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit Agreement
The National Lottery and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, through Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), have entered into an agreement aimed at preventing money laundering. This institutional coordination agreement seeks to enhance collaboration mechanisms and improve preventive capabilities within their respective responsibilities.
The agreement was signed by Olivia Salomón, the general director of the National Lottery, and Omar Reyes Colmenares, the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit, at the UIF facilities located in Mexico City.
Main Actions of the Agreement
- Establishment of inter-institutional working groups to facilitate the exchange of experiences and strengthen technical skills.
- Organization of courses, diplomas, and training activities focused on preventing and detecting operations involving illicit resources.
- Development of strategies aimed at enhancing coordination mechanisms within their areas of competence.
As per a press release from the Mexican government, both institutions will appoint public servants to serve as liaisons in a working group tasked with overseeing the agreements. They will also have the option to sign technical annexes to define specific operating procedures.
The government noted that, “With the formalization of this instrument, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the national regime for the prevention of money laundering and the financing of illicit activities, in alignment with the international standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and emphasizing inter-institutional coordination as a critical element of the effectiveness of the Mexican preventive system.”
