Splash Launches as New Fantasy Sports Operator in New York
Splash Sports has received approval to offer QuickPicks, its version of daily fantasy sports (DFS), in New York State. This follows the introduction of its existing paid fantasy contests, including Tiers, One and Done, and Survivor.
Following approval from the New York State Gaming Commission in 2024, Splash becomes the first new licensed fantasy sports operator in the state in nearly a decade and the second operator to provide a player pick’em style game in New York.
Platform Overview
Splash Sports, formed through the acquisition and integration of RunYourPool (RYP) and OfficeFootballPool (OFP), which are recognized leaders in free-to-play games, now hosts over two million users across 40 US states and Canada (excluding Quebec) since its launch in July 2023. Effective December 23, 2024, users in New York can engage in Splash Sports’ contests, including One and Done, Tiers, and licensed player pick’em games.
Company Insights
Co-CEO TJ Ross highlighted the significance of New York for their operations, noting the local passion for sports and competitive nature seen on RYP and OFP platforms. He emphasized that expanding into the state will support their growth strategy in various sports, including football, basketball, baseball, golf, and hockey.
Co-CEO Joel Milton added, “After receiving the first fantasy license awarded in NY in nearly a decade last year, we are now excited and ready to launch Splash’s player games. We’ve worked hard to build an industry-leading fantasy site that not only provides a great user experience but also proactively protects its players and promotes responsible gaming habits. It’s great that our hard work has been recognized by the New York State Gaming Commission.”
Peer-to-Peer Gaming Experience
Unlike many other fantasy and pick’em platforms, Splash’s contests operate on a fully peer-to-peer basis, allowing participants to compete against one another rather than against the house. Administrators can create private groups, customize contest settings, foster community building, and directly interact with players.
